Stuttgart – Organised by Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH and curated by Prof. Uwe R. Brückner and Céline Kruska, the International Scenography Biennial (ISB) is a newly created forum where representatives of the young and aspiring discipline of scenography will be able to get together. The ISB’13 will take place in Ludwigsburg, a city renowned for its baroque architecture and its media savvy, from 7 to 10 November 2013 – in a place where two historical reference locations of scenography exist, namely the castle and the world's oldest surviving baroque castle theatre. Partners in this cooperative venture are the Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg (academy of the performing arts), the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (film academy), and the Staatliche Akademie für Bildende Kunst Stuttgart (Stuttgart state academy of art and design). The Zumtobel Group is sponsoring the event.
The slogan of this year's International Scenography Biennial is the art of holistic design. It is unsurprisingly dedicated to the holistic, scenographic design of spaces. In the interests of a contemporary and interdisciplinary philosophy of design, scenographers, architects, designers, artists, museum experts and entrepreneurs will be using lectures and performances to present their philosophy of designed space and how they go about using it. The biennial will be taking a look at architectonic, media-orientated, sculptural and performance space, thus illustrating the wide remit of scenographic design today.
The two executive directors of Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH, Dittmar Lumpp and Prof. Ulrich Wegenast, emphasise the central idea behind the event: "Scenography and communication in a three-dimensional setting are driving factors of the creative industry in the Stuttgart region. We are therefore very pleased to have the opportunity to work with Prof. Uwe R. Brückner to make this top-class event a reality.“
