Het Nieuwe Instituut organizes a discursive programme around the exhibition Designing Scarcity and an educational activity.
The finissage will take the form of a workshop led by designer Thomas Lommée. Participants will disassemble the exhibition structure – based on Lommée’s OpenStructures construction system – and use the materials to design objects they can take away with them. OpenStructures is a modular construction method based on a simple geometric grid. It functions as a kind of collaborative Meccano: anyone can use it to make designs, and anyone can add parts. The system’s open character encourages people to design and build structures collectively. To take part in the workshop, register at www.hetnieuweinstituut.nl/aanmelden.
