Towards Tomorrow

Kaarina Kaikkonen installation at the MAXXI Museum

Towards Tomorrow, the largest site-specific installation of Kaarina Kaikkonen, from April 14th to July 15th, will dress the area outside the main entrance of the MAXXI museum in Rome.

Clothes of hundreds of children to form a large sail, T-shirts and sweaters in color-contrast with MAXXI's cement walls as a "space created with the space."

The installation, by the MAXXI Art and with the patronage of the Embassy of Finland, is the Finnish artist’s  second Italian stage after her site specific work in Reggio Emilia Are We Still Going On? set up at the Collection Maramotti until October 28, 2012.

Towards Tomorrow is made by children’s dresses of different colors and styles, gathered through a project with the families of the city: every person who donated clothing, tied of all its store of memories, will ideally be part of the work. This large colorful sail will move with the wind filling the gaps and reshaping the sinuous profile of the building designed by Zaha Hadid.

"I realized a lot of works and installations, creating space with the space - says Kaarina Kaikkonen - Through my work I try to understand myself better and understand where it ends and begins on the inside out."
