Using high-tech software, Bluarch architects were able to design and realize a ‘tufted cocoon’ ceiling that’s one seamless, upholstered shell. The ceiling is held intact by 8,888 buttons that were also designed with the computer software. It also hides systems for air conditioning, heating, sprinkles, sound, lighting and emergency lighting. Gaps in the tufted ceiling are punctuated with 88,888 acrylic strands, behind which LED light fixtures can change hues in response to the music. The long booth seating are an extension of the tufted shell. Bespoke tables are constructed of poplar wood and are lacquered in a gloss finish. The 14 m long bar is honey onyx, which is also seen in the DJ booth at the opposite end of the space. The DJ booth’s sides are removable, allowing it to transform into a stage for live performances. ‘We wanted to create a space with reachable boundaries that offer a soft, tactile, sexy experience,’ says Antonio Di Oronzo of Bluarch.
