Cloud Cities Installation

by Tomas Saraceno For Dornbracht Installation Projects

Like giant mesh spiderwebs that hover in space, Tomas Saraceno’s new installation reflects man’s current and future living environment and society.

The Argentinian artist has created what he calls ‘biospheres,’ or organic three-dimensional meshworks that are suspended throughout the room. About 20 pieces are suspended by black nets and filled with plants, water or clear material that can support humans.

Called a vision of a Utopian world, guests are invited to experience the installation and how a system of individual modules can create a total spatial cosmos.

The project has been commissioned by Dornbracht Installation Projects, which supports and initiates culture. Cloud Cities can be seen until 15 January, 2012, at the Museum for Contemporary Art (Museum für Gegenwart) in Berlin.
