Simple geometric octagons and sparkling colours served as inspiration for a glossy nightclub designed by Korean collective Urbantainer.
Club Octagon houses a dance club, lounge and restaurant located in two below-ground levels of the New Hilltop Hotel in Gangnam-Gu, Seoul. Designers at Urbantainer say they envisioned a series of 3D octagons of various sizes, popping up individually and in layers to influence the overall appearance of the club.
‘We were inspired by the octagon’s prevalence in Korean traditional design, like in royal pavilions and dishes,’ the architects says. 'We only used 45, 90, and 135-degree angles throughout the entire space.’
The perception of space is constantly altered by interactive 4D lighting - created in collaboration with James Powderly - that dynamically changes colour according to the music’s beats.
