Urine, bacteria and sand go into Dupe and come out as sandstone objects.

Dupe by Peter Trimble

Dupe, a mini manufacturing plant, converts urine, bacteria and sand into sandstone objects. The portable casting unit is made for pouring a urine and bacteria mix into a sand mould. A  biological reaction of the urea and sand turns the form into sandstone and a solid piece of furniture.

Trimble’s research into the possibilities of microbial manufacture has led to a biomaterial that produces no greenhouse gases and can be reused as fertilizer. Potential applications include bricks for homes in developing countries and street furniture.
