Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis by Jan De Cock
Late Great First Lady at Galerie Fons Welters
For his sixth solo show at Galerie Fons Welters, Belgian artist Jan De Cock created a series of sculptural installations inspired by 1960s icon Jackie O.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis plays with conceptions of icon status, 60s romanticism and the 'beginning of a culture of spectacle'. Sculptures formed from chipboard, wood, plaster and acrylic paint create pieces that are both polished and unfinished, formed and crumbling, betraying the flip side of glamour, complete with touches of Chanel-pink.
The exhibition consists of pillar structures, titled Krise (Crisis), alongside a series rectangular pieces, each called Romantik, of layered and painted wood and chipboard over lacquered green metal frames.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis will be at Galerie Fons Welters in Amsterdam from 2 February to 9 March 2013.
