Prime Matter by Olivia Aspinall

Having served as a platform for innovative work created by final-year design students between 1988 and 1992, the Aram Graduates Show was revived this year – and Olivia Aspinall from Central St Martins was one of the lucky few to be selected. On show at Aram Gallery in London’s Covent Garden, Aspinall’s Prime Matter put chalk and coal through its paces, transforming these rudimentary materials into experimental textures and surfaces. She used ground coal as a print medium for wallpaper and made unique tiles from a mix of chalk and resin.
