Sculptures Cinetiques
by Laurent Debraux
Laurent Debraux creates delicate sculptures that seem to come alive, thanks to mechanics and magnetic laws; the result is playful, poetic and gently surreal.
Debraux's artistic influences began at birth, having been born into a creative family. 'My grandfather was an inventor, my brother is one too and my father always had a lot of unusual and inventive ideas,' Debraux recalls. However, it wasn't until two years ago that he pursued his own creative dimension, inspired by the vibrancy of his artistic neighbourhood.
This French artist is a collector of unusual things. His pieces are inspired by playing with these objects. For instance, Marche de l'Oursin (The march of the Urchin) came about while playing with magnets and pins.
Soon, Debraux realised that his sculptures weren't just a private enjoyment. 'It was a big surprise, and a great pleasure to discover that what I did made people smile,' he says.
