Spanish Pavilion at Yeosu Expo by External Reference Architects
As an attempt to showcase Spain’s seafaring tradition, a pavilion display combined test tubes, water samples, LEDs and video technology.
The Deep Ocean display – one of four within the Spanish pavilion at Yeosu Expo 2012 – featured illuminated tubes filled with water collected from 5000m below sea level. As the lights in the tubes shifted colour, the data in the water sample could be deciphered in new ways and further mesmerize visitors.
Barcelona-based studio External Reference Architects were responsible for the exhibition concept. Designers arranged the tubes in intervals in front of a 8m screen onto which videos were projected. The lights, sound and videos shifted in reaction to peoples' presence in the space. Video mapping was realized by OnionLab.
The pavilion was created for the Yeosu Expo 2012 in South Korea. It’s theme was The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities.
