Westminster Bridge Park Plaza Hotel

The hotel’s focal points are the walls on either side of the main staircase, which leads from the ground floor entrance to the first floor reception area. These walls, 12 m in length and 8 m high, gradually change colour throughout the day, pending the mood and feel of the space. To give a 3D effect, inside the walls are two huge woven meshes made from over 20000 small transparent plastic panels by Koziol. Between the two glass surfaces, the meshes hang alongside a unique LED light system by Philips Colours Kinetics. Using ‘colour graze’ special lenses, the lights transmit through the mesh, creating a full RGB spectrum of colours. ‘We designed these walls as semi-transparent filtering between public spaces,’ explains designer Eyal Shoan of Digital Space. ‘They are seen from the public areas and add visual interest while changing the ambiance throughout.’ Digital Space has also designed a huge glass artwork that hangs behind the reception desk. The 22 m long and 3 m high piece also fluctuates between RGB colour spectrum shades, and it has a pattern on it created through a special glass-printing technique. Interior design and architecture studio Digital Space specializes in furniture and product design for hotels, yachts and residences.
