Dutch concept and interior designer Niels Maier of Studio Niels has collaborated with Rotterdam-based architects BroekBakema to create a colourful and lively office for health sciences company DSM. Specialising in health, food and material research and development, DSM works to create solutions and seek new ways to improve quality of life – an endeavour which the designers set out to convey by creating a workplace that facilitates a productive and playful atmosphere.

Situated at the eponymous campus of Chemelot, a chemical science company that [works/researches] in the fields of Life and Material sciences, the space for DSM has been finished with the distinctive signature of Dutch label DUM. Founded in 2008 by the design collective Dumoffice, the label’s distinctive aesthetic creates a corporate area with edge, while the large office spaces enabled the designers to work with colours that pop, yet remain subtle at the same time.
