Dutch studio Tjep. has realized its latest project in Bergen, the Netherlands.

The Fabbrica restaurant was modeled after train cabins, giving patrons a sense of privacy as they dine in cozy pods. Slightly elevated, these pods can be accessed by a two or three-step ladder.

‘We decided to take a more earthly and less-glossy approach,’ says Frank Tjepkema of Tjep., when comparing Fabbrica Bergen to the Rotterdam location he designed in 2005.

The Bergen restaurant features more raw, open materials as opposed to painted surfaces; this was done as a cost-effective way to reflect the current economic situation.

‘It’s not time for “bling bling” anymore,’ Tjepkema says. ‘People want more authenticity and less entertainment.’
