A Bangkok café’s circular design helps combat local environmental issues
  1. Early BKK is a café located in a multi-generational family neighbourhood of Bangkok and its brand is premised around creating community and advocating for sustainable practices. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
  2. Spacecraft was commissioned to design a café space which represented and enabled these practices locally. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
  3. The design of the 120-sq-m two-storey building extensively used upcycled trash and other materials sourced in the surrounding neighbourhood, like milk cartons and glass bottles which were used for the façade, furniture, and interior finishes. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
  4. The designer collaborated with a factory to create a material, called re-board, made entirely of milk cartons cut into small pieces and was used for the door, ceiling, chairs and tables. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
  5. Beer bottles were used in multiple ways throughout the project with 600 used for the façade. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
  6. Some of the glass bottles were broken down and used for the terrazzo countertop and floor of the restroom. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
  7. Bottles were also used to create texture on the poured concrete walls. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
  8. The main seating area is located on the first floor with large windows on either side for natural ventilation. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
  9. Additional sustainability measures were taken like the installation of solar panels on the roof, a waste separation programme, and no plastic cups or straws policy. - Thanapol Jongsiripipat
