Kennedy Town Pool
The first construction phase of a Farrells’ Hong Kong swimming pool is officially complete.
The zinc-clad Kennedy Town Pool is a curvaceous structure that combines a building with a park, working to extend a green landscape. Phase one has seen the installation of two outdoor pools that provide dramatic views of the Victoria Harbour.
Phase two is scheduled to be complete in 2017, whereby two indoor pools and Jacuzzis will be added beneath the columnless roof of ETFE cushions. This will be separated from the outdoor pool by a sliding glass wall that can be opened in summer months.
‘The use of ETFE maximises the views from the pool building,’ says architect Sir Terry Farrell. ‘It provides an open, uninterrupted span above the pool which maximises the use of daylight, offers excellent thermal insulation and is acoustically transparent – a characteristic that will reduce the echoing acoustics so common in swimming pool buildings.’
