French designer Joseph Dirand combines the wares of LED lighting manufacturer KKDC and kitchen producer Obumex into a coherent Paris showroom.

After initial meetings with the clients, Dirand had free rein to create the 150-m2 dual showroom for KKDC and Obumex in his own distinct style. What he did with that creative freedom was to add his cool, minimalist touch to a space that maintains the brands’ identities and aesthetics. ‘Far from presenting “products to sell”, the venue is about showing, explaining and promoting the work of each partner,’ he says, a statement that rings true in the design of the on-site concept kitchen.

The space combines some of Dirand’s favourite materials and finishes – Paomazetto marble, bronze patina and high-quality woods – and mixes warm and cool, rich and raw. Even still, the designer manages to retain warmth in some of the cooler aspects: ‘I wanted to offer a friendly atmosphere that invites you into a story, the narrators of which are the two manufacturers and myself.’

See our hospitality-themed Frame Lab in issue 101, out 1 November, to hear how Dirand tackles restaurant and hotel design.
