Design firm KRADS was commissioned to create a pop-up club for a new Danish gin distillery at the NorthSide Festival in Aarhus.

The space not only needed to embody the uniqueness and passion for handcrafted qualities of the brand Spirit of Njord, but also its patience and curiosity – as this was to be no ordinary bar. Housed in three shipping containers, it only revealed itself to festival goers who went in search of it, leaving the intense festival vibe behind and embarking on a mystery tour. Navigating through one shipping container suspended above ground, a staircase led down to a courtyard at which time the entrance to Njord Gin Club revealed itself.

The whole narrative surrounding the way into the interior informed the design of the 'secret' retreat itself, which conjured an intimate and cosy air. Radiating with a raw naturalness, the pale plywood surfaces sculpt counters and form display units, which aptly exhibits the star attraction – the bottles of gin – as beautiful objects in themselves. The decor's muted palette is teamed with pops of deep aqua blue hues in the form of the seating elements and tactile textiles, courtesy of Muuto and Kvadrat, that complement the brand's corporate colour. Finding yourself in this stylish abode at the end of fascinating journey proves a little mystery can leave a good taste in the mouth, for gin lovers, taste experts and festival goers alike. Let's hope the Njord Gin Club pops-up at another musical event this summer.
