Famed sibling design duo, the Campana brothers, ventured from their native Brazil to Athens to redesign a hotel.
What was the Olympic Palace Hotel in Plaka is now the New Hotel, which incorporates three different themes of Athenian culture in its design.
First are rooms that display historic postcards, giving guests an insight into old Athens. Other rooms pay homage to fictional characters from Greek folklore called Karagiozis. The third theme for rooms embraces the ‘evil eye’ – a superstitious bead that guards against bad omens.
Humberto and Fernando Campana ‘carefully blend the old with the new, creating a contrast between historical Athenian elements and contemporary touches throughout the hotel,’ say representatives from Yes!Hotels; the hotel's chain has a philosophy of ‘young, enthusiastic and seductive.’
New Hotel has 79 rooms and suites, many of which hold exclusive pieces of artwork.
