OWEN SHOP by Tacklebox
In New York’s Meatpacking District, a boutique is repurposing the classic brown lunch bag.
Over 25,000 bags were used to create site-specific décor in OWEN, a new shop selling products by over 70 emerging designers and brands. According to its owner, 25-year-old fashion designer Philip Salem, the concept is fuelled by experience rather than selling individual items.
‘I am in business to not only inspire people through clothing, but to captivate and ignite the client's artistic mind through a non-egotistical and creative atmosphere,’ says Salem, who commissioned designer Jeremy Barbour of Tacklebox to design the shop interior.
Inside the 1393-sq-m store, the bags cover a continuous wall that arches from floor to ceiling. Existing brick walls were left intact and open, contrasting with the organic texture of the bags. Meanwhile, products are displayed on quartz slab tables and bars, which provide crisp contrast to the natural bags and bricks.
