Tribal Trailblazers Awaken at Sleep 2016

Creative minds will gather once again at the free-to-attend Sleep 2016, Europe’s leading hotel design and development event returning 22 and 23 November to London’s Business Design Centre. Global talents and tastemakers will push the boundaries with innovative ideas, from the two-day conference with progressive thought-leaders, a curated exhibition of clever products, and mind-blowing installations from designers and fit-out companies who have poured their hearts into creating imaginative sets.

Awaken Your Mind

Just announced is Keynote speaker Loh Lik Peng, award-winning founder of the Unlisted Collection, a uniquely stylish group of seven hotels and 20 restaurants in London, Singapore, Shanghai and Sydney. Discover how his touch and charm with partners such as designers Neri & Hu and chef Jason Atherton has allowed him to create one-of-a-kind experiences that go against the grain whilst hitting the zeitgeist full on.

Awaken Your Imagination

An annual highlight, this year’s Sleep Set competition explores alternative approaches to hotel design through ‘The Science of Tribes’. A pioneering collaboration between social scientists and international design teams, Singapore-based WOW Architects and Mitsui Designtec from Tokyo, along with the London offices of Studio Proof, Aukett Swanke and Gensler, are each creating a guestroom for a different ‘tribe’ as defined by the shared values, lifestyles and aesthetic preferences of its members. Entrants will present their concepts to judges in front of a conference audience before the winner is announced at lunchtime on day two.

Awaken Your Senses

Joining cutting-edge interior design and branding agency Superfutures for this year’s pop-up Sleep Bar designed to further explore The Science of Tribes is multimedia artist and illumination wizard, Tupac Martir. Tupac has been creative director for avant-garde, highly theatrical experiences for musical productions from Elton John and Coachella festival to catwalk installations for Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. At Sleep 2016, Tupac will consider the role of virtual reality in hospitality via a futuristic immersion inspired by forces of nature – water, fire, wind and earth - to pump up the drama of Superfutures’ bar.
