With its new San Francisco headquarters, apartment-letting website Airbnb has made more than just a new office for its 200 staff – the former industrial building has been transformed into an all-encompassing environment of brand values and flexible working, with servings of healthy food on top.
Designed in collaboration with Gensler, the office's workspace is planned around a huge top-lit atrium, with meeting rooms occupying the perimeter. The rooms are all replicas of actual homes that can be rented through Airbnb, named for the places they can be found in from Reykjavik to Paris, Amsterdam to Bali. It’s a quirky touch that brings staff closer to the customers they serve, as well as providing a choice of spaces for people to meet and work in.
A cafeteria with dedicated chef serves up three locally-sourced meals a day (plus snacks), and staff can make themselves at home by bringing pets to work.
