Taking a ‘one for one’ approach to its mineral-water sales, Marie-Stella-Maris donates a fixed amount of funding towards clean drinking water worldwide for each bottle purchased. Wanting to branch out to include additional products, the brand opted for another staple: soap.
Marie-Stella-Maris Archives, the label’s first physical store, has a corner location in central Amsterdam. The narrow two-storey space presents Marie-Stella-Maris’s ‘natural as possible’ care products on the ground floor, backlit by what company founder Patrick Munsters calls the ‘cinema wall’. He explains that after visiting a William Klein exhibition, ‘we created a wall to tell the story of Marie-Stella-Maris. UN Resolution 64/292 – which details the human right to clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene – inspired us to develop this brand.’
A collage of vintage mirrors at the far end of the space hint at the basement level below, home to a coffee bar that serves up caffeine fixes and – naturally – the brand’s own mineral water.
