As part of The National Building Museum’s annual summer program, a huge maze by Bjarke Ingels Group will be unveiled.
Inspired by ancient labyrinths and 17th/18th-century European hedge mazes, the 5.5-m-high installation will be constructed using Baltic birch plywood. Visitors viewing the construction from the ground floor will be greeted with cube-like form. The outer walls gradually descend towards the centre leaving visitors in the centre of the maze with a 360-view of the path they have taken.
Not interested in enclosed spaces? The maze – located in the West Court of the museum's historic Great Hall – can also be viewed from the museum’s second and third floor balconies. The BIG Maze will open 4 July to 1 September, 2014.
