This tapas bar balances warm sophistication with vibrant edginess

Dubai – Located within City Walk – a prime dining destination developed by Meraas Holding – Toro & KO is a high-end Spanish tapas restaurant by celebrated chefs Ken Oringer and Jamie Bissonnette. Bishop Design by Paul Bishop brings the flamboyant soul of Barcelona to the Emirates through an interior design characterised by bold artworks, warm natural colours and refined industrial surfaces.

The highlight of the space is the playful graffiti and illustrations that immediately catch the eye upon entering the restaurant. These bespoke artworks are created by Spanish street artists Ruben Sanchez and function as the core of the interior design aesthetic. In addition to the commissioned art, attention has been given to the creation of custom-made lighting that provides a warm and refined atmosphere with urban overtones.

Top: Warm colours and earthy materials like such as steel, reclaimed wood, brass, and copper are used to balance the industrial elements. | Middle: An open plan kitchen, beer and martini cocktail bar are key features of the restaurant’s ground floor, creating a nucleus for the interior. | Bottom: High exposed ceilings, mid-century style furniture and vibrant graffiti artwork create a refreshing yet sophisticated atmosphere for the tapas restaurant.

Another main feature is the seamless transitions between external and internal dimensions. For example, floors incorporate a diverse combination of fluid poured concrete surfaces and terrazzo that creates a visually dynamic link between the different areas. Ceilings were stripped back and exposed, adding a chic industrial vibe to the space, while highlighting the bespoke decorative and technical lamps.
