Both fashion and furniture brands took over this year’s Design Miami with displays and installations honouring French architect Charlotte Perriand’s 110th birthday. Characterized as a maverick of 20th century design, the modernist icon championed her own redefined minimalism. At the fashion house’s Miami flagship, Louis Vuitton presented its Spring Summer 2014 collection – inspired by Perriand’s use of shape and colour – and Cassina debuted a tribute edition of the LC4 lounge chair alongside.
A product of Perriand’s longstanding collaboration with Le Corbusier, LC4 is both functional and comfortable. For the occasion, Cassina collaborated with Louis Vuitton’s tannery to produce a limited edition that reflects the architect’s aesthetic. Employing the fashion brand’s saddler technique, the reupholstered LC4 is emblematic of a Louis Vuitton handbag; pink and brown leather with yellow stitching.
