Designjunction Preview #1

Allermuir launches Tonina, a stackable chair by Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci.

Designjunction was one of London Design Festival’s most talked-about destinations last year, transforming a former mail sorting office on New Oxford Street into a lively hub of brand showcases, talks, shops and eateries. In the first of two previews, we pick five participating furniture brands that we’ll be making a bee-line for when the show returns to London in September.

1 Fritz Hansen
Jaime Hayon’s voluptuous armchair Ro is his latest design for Fritz Hansen. The flamboyant Spanish designer and the venerable Danish brand teamed up previously on the Favn Sofa, and the unlikely pairing seems to paid off once more with this unusual but comfortable piece.

2 Made In Ratio
Designer Brodie Neill’s collection of lighting, seating, tables and storage comes under the name of new brand Made in Ratio. The impossible-looking Cowrie Chair and Rocker are made from single pieces of plywood curved into monocoque forms.

3 Moroso
Bagging this big Italian brand is quite a coup for Designjunction.  Expect to see popular pieces from recent years like Doshi Levien’s Paper Planes and My Beautiful Backside as well as Patricia Urquiola’s Fishbone Tables.

4 String Furniture
String’s classic shelving system has been around for over 60 years but is still looks as good as ever. We put its longevity is down to the infinite ways the system can be configured and arranged.

5 Allermuir
The contract furniture company launches Tonina, a stackable chair by Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci that is totally recyclable and comes in a range of colours.
