Three weeks and 1,076 submissions later, our editorial team is pleased to report that the longlisted nominees for Frame Awards 2020 have been decided upon. The process was a difficult one – there were a multiplicity of projects that not only showcased exceptional design in the retail, hospitality, workspace, residential, institutional and show sectors, but close attention to the social and environmental issues of today.
In the end, we selected projects that serve as cases innovative in the most comprehensive sense of the term – cases which we believe best represent the future of interior design. Our longlist includes the work of renowned firms including Sevil Peach Architecture + Design, Conran and Partners, Woods Bagot, Gensler, Mecanoo and Schemata Architects, as well emerging studios such as Daylab Studio, Masquespacio, StudioXAG and Mur Mur Lab; projects have been completed for Adidas, ASICS, Freitag, Selfridges, Spaces, Muuto, Rimowa and Kvadrat, to name a few brands.
‘Making the first selection of projects submitted to the Frame Awards is exciting as well as challenging,’ explains Robert Thiemann, founder of Frame Publishers. ‘It’s fantastic to see the wealth of interiors that designers, makers and clients have collaborated on. Unfortunately, we’ve had to disappoint many submitters who didn’t make it to the longlist. We are working on ways to honour them, too.’
Now that the longlist selections have been made, our jury will take the torch in deciding the projects who will make it on to the shortlist – we turn to 40 industry stakeholders including Aēsop’s creative director Marsha Meredith, Google hardware design vice president Ivy Ross, Space10 co-founder and managing director Kaave Pour, Heineken global director of health Herbert Schilthuis and Patrick Schumacher, principal of Zaha Hadid Architects. The international leaders were chosen to represent a diversity in design disciplines and personal perspectives, one of the core values driving the Frame Awards.
The shortlist will be announced on 12 December 2019 – the reveal will mark the beginning of the public voting period for the People’s Choice awards, which will remain open until mid-February 2020. On 19 and 20 February 2020, the entire Frame Awards community will come together at B.Building Amsterdam for a rich programme of talks, exhibitions, workshops, trend briefings, brand experiences, panel discussions and networking opportunities spanning the two days. Members of the public are invited to join in on the jury’s live judging sessions, which offer an insightful, critical look into the industry today.
And, of course, no awards programme is completithout proper celebration: on the eve of 20 February 2020, the winners of our 36 category awards will be announced and share speeches during a grand dinner, to be followed by an after party with selected jury members, VIPs and press in attendance.
