Frame picks the top 20 A' Design Award Winners

Frame picks twenty inspiring interiors which won this year's A' Design Award and align with the magazine's themes of colour, hospitality, retail and work.

TAIPEI – In an attempt to form a villa in the city, a structure with a green house concept – an open space with a living landscape – set about. The constructed form involves a container of cast glass and a setback floor to deliver plenty of natural illumination for a sunshine-filled interior environment.

TEHRAN – As is suggested by its name, this residential building commemorates local tradition. Orsi is a sash window which originated from Iranian architecture and khaneh means home.

Lightscape Pavilion by MisoSoupDesign

SINGAPORE – Informed by Chinese lanterns, the Lightscape Pavilion settles at the urban center of Marina Bay. A refined weaving of strips interconnects four open-framework columns which are encompassed by bamboo furniture.

Papa's Hostel by Wei He

PINGTIAN – Located in China's Zheijiang Province, Papa's Hostel is a reconstructed house which contains 270 sq-m across two storeys. The structure now provides the functions of a hostel meanwhiling providint a space for local youngsters for play and socializing.

Chalet La Pedevilla by Pedevilla Architects

ENNEBERG – Surrounded by the Dolomites mountains south of Tyrol, Chalet La Pedevilla is a pair style type consisting of a tenement and a farm house suiting the cultural and architectural tradition. The exterior is characterized by the darkened gable, roof, loggias and the timber facade of regional origin whilst the inner shell is of white walls and ceilings complimenting the natural yet self-sustained function with a solar energy and water source.

TAIWAN – MARU restaurant is a combinational interior building a calm dining atmosphere using dark tones and dimmed light with a hint of spatial angles to support taste receptors directed by the chef.

STRENGELBACH – Neumatt is a playful sports center project located in a central Switzerland village. Its vibrant coating motivates and inspires physical activity, among the local municipality, schools and sport clubs.

MEXICO CITY – Gerardo Broissin's playful vissualization of a kindergarten brought up a concept of throwing concrete blocks on the field as if they were toys that formed a prism for a game of hide and seek. The classrooms are characterized by their fluoroscent colouring in combination with natural light comming from the holey openings that works to better the attention, reading and information processing in students.

NINGBO – Danny Chan designes a property sales office ressembling time zones created through an oval-shaped structure of curved fence walls that conceale the columns and illustrate traditional Chinese interpetations of a round sky and square ground applied to the island.
