Hoarding (Dis)Order by Maaike Fransen

Maaike Fransen’s presentation of her Hoarding (Dis)Order collection during Amsterdam Fashion Week was a glorious rejection of convention and trope. Never work with children? Strike a pose? So 2013. The Dutch designer’s catwalk debut was a ‘show’ in the proper sense of the word, with children leaping around the stage and springing from a wheelbarrow.

For the grand finale, the designer herself burst out of a golden inflatable in the midst of her creations. Fortunately, none of the trappings distracted from the clothes: a surreal riot of colour and material made from items found (or hoarded) by Fransen.
