We’re not sure what Danish Academy of Fine Arts graduate Nikolaj Steenfatt was doing when he discovered a new material from coffee grounds, animal glue and sawdust but it’s an intriguing proposal all the same. Steenfatt makes his mixture into a malleable dough, which he then flattens to make the biodegradable fibre composite into sheets capable of being vacuum-formed.

Impasto – a collection of chairs, stool and pendant lights – is made by using Steenfatt’s newly discovered material in combination with oak. Each has a unique colouring due to pigments added during the process.
