J’s is a Japanese wining and dining restaurant in Osaka, Japan. The restaurant is situated in the confined area of an office block’s basement; here the traditional Japanese style was consciously avoided. The main dining area is partitioned off, and the walls covered by large curtains printed with doors and windows in a Western classical style. The red and white colour scheme refers to the flag of the Rising Sun. Another dining area – for private functions – has a completely different feel. It resembles a dark, subterranean cellar. A large pillar made from wooden wine boxes dominates the space and alludes to its function.
