Mama Shelter Marseille

The reception’s grey and brown tones are livened by ceiling decorations and a coloured glass background.

Designer Philippe Starck has teamed with boutique hotel Mama Shelter to open its newest location in Marseille.

Stark’s interior design does its best to keep the spaces practical and intriguing. They explore contrast and texture, juxtaposing colorful and even whimsical elements with more polished and serialized ones.

Occasional brightly-colored chairs or walls fuse with ceiling prints and animal-shaped balloons, contrasting other walls covered in wood and brown patterned tiles. Such intrusions of color in the otherwise sober environment provide the warmth and diversity necessary to give each corner its own personality, while maintaining a general atmosphere.

Open since April, the hip – yet affordable – hotel sits near the culturally thriving Cours Julien district. With free movies and Wi-Fi, its aiming to attract young and creative people as well as families with children.
