Earlier this month, Berlin’s Aedes Gallery played host to a selection of 10 milestone projects by progressive architecture practice UNStudio. The installation acts as a piece of exploratory architecture in itself: using the temporary installation as a testing ground for concepts at a bigger scale.
The 10 projects – which include the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, the Mumuth Music Theatre in Graz, and the Burnham Pavilion, Chicago – are depicted as huge images at almost a 1:1 scale. The effect is to blend light, colour and material with tricks of optical illusion and trompe l’oeil.
A flow of circulation weaves through the gallery space, connecting the 10 projects with smaller images that support understanding of those at the huge scale.
