Nearly ten years after turning heads with its first commercial project in China – a Shanghai flagship for Reebok – New York-based Contemporary Architecture Practice (CAP) has completed its own Shanghai headquarters.
CAP is known for applying advanced digital design and production techniques to projects with a futuristic aesthetic, and the Shanghai HQ is no exception. The building’s clean, all-white interior is a blend of modernity, minimalism and functionality. A patterned wall design captures the principles and methods of the practice. Made out of curved and painted CNC-milled pressed fibreboard, a series of panels open to reveal storage space. When closed, the panels join to enhance the interior’s striking sense of continuity. Visitors are impressed by the visual effect, while the clutter-free work spaces and calming patterns ‘serve as sound backdrops for creativity’, says CAP cofounder Ali Rahim.
