During this year's Stockholm Design Week, 55 leading Icelandic and Finnish designers will 'move in together' in an apartment that has been harmoniously decked-out in their designs.
The venture goes under the banner of We Live Here and is curated by Hlin Helga Guðlaugsdóttir, Elina Aalto and Marika Tesolin. This unique living arrangement will be open for public viewing in February, with contemporary designs exhibited throughout the flat – which also doubles-up as an exhibition and event space. When moving to a new city, even if only for a short time, being surrounded by beautiful things is high on the agenda and the furnishings of this apartment will meet those expectations – for both the space itself and the inhabitants, with the products on show ranging from accessories and ceramics to wallpaper and woollen blankets.
The curators state, 'Through carefully-selected objects and projects, we compare, contrast and communicate Icelandic and Finnish design languages, our material culture, design industry, current topics and approaches to design. Through our work, certain strong themes started to emerge, forming pairs and groups within the home and guiding the selection process. Our aim has been to highlight what is interesting now, rather than ‘newness’ which tends to dominate design discussions, aspiring to reveal the strongest potentials and relevance of Finnish and Icelandic designers on the Nordic design scene today.'
The apartment will be decorated with works by designers, including Harri Koskinen, Katrin Olina, Kustaa Saksi and Vík Prónsdóttir. In addition, Swedish designers Monica Förster, TAF Architects, Färg & Blanche and Katrin Greiling will partake in the project to welcome their Nordic neighbours. Once everyone settles in and feels at home, the doors to the apartment will open on 3 February. Run jointly by Design Forum Finland and Iceland Design Centre, more details about We Live Here are avilable at the event website (see here).
