Wonen Limburg by studiomfd

The kitchen is often the most lively space in the house – an area for eating together, talking and socialising.

Dutch housing cooperation Wonen Limburg asked studiomfd to come up with a concept for its new headquarters and the six local offices in the region. Its new corporate strategy for the coming years is called ‘Welcome Home’ – aiming to improve the quality of people’s homes and neighbourhoods. Translating this concept into the organisation’s own work environment, Wonen Limburg wanted a space where visitors as well as employees immediately would feel at home.

Via intensive workshops and inspirational days led by strategic concept agency Fresh Forward, designer Martijn Frank Dirks came up with a domestic setting that also embraces the new way of working. Each space requires a different work mode. The ‘residents’ of the office can choose where they will sit depending on the tasks at hand on any particular day. Just as one would do, when working from home. This fragmented division requires an active attitude from the employees.

The layout of the four-storey headquarters consists of study, work, conference and play rooms, positioned around central living rooms and kitchens. A canteen is located on the ground floor. The same spatial concept is applied to the regional offices on a smaller scale.
