Devlin’s design for the Beyoncé Formation Tour is a kinetic, sculptural, 21st-century LED translation of a medieval stained glass window.

Every rock concert to some degree explores the tension between the magnified image and the life size pop star and this phenomenon was the core of the concept: a conversation between the human-scaled Beyoncé and her 20-m-high magnification. The intimacy of the close up and the magnificence of the wide shot were combined in a single gesture which became the sole focal point for the gaze of 90,000 in each stadium.

The hardest thing to achieve within the challenging context of brutal rock-and-roll logistics is any kind of minimalist, purity or singularity of focus - which is what this concept relied upon.
