Exhibition
11-12 May 2022
IE Tower: P.º de la Castellana, 259E (Torre Caleido) 28046 Madrid
Dutch designer Monique Horstmann and Danish artist Mia Lerssi collaborate in a series of ten glass objects. The work highlights the Amsterdam-based artists’ questions regarding outsourcing to Asia. In order to supply the consumer with cheap goods, the production of many commercial, craft-based products has moved from Europe to the Far East. This shift had caused many Western glass manufacturers to close down; they are unable to compete with low market prices. The exhibition paints a scenario where all knowledge of crafts has been lost and consumers can only buy goods manufactured abroad. Horstmann and Lerssi visualize this extreme situation to make the consumer think about our cheap consumer goods. Here, the artists use competitively priced items to create a new body of work. The exhibition runs until 20 June, 2010.
